1. WINSTEAD GETS WIN #2 AT ORANGE COUNTY – Orange County Speedway

    May 21, 2007 by Winstead

Rougemont, NC – AJ Winstead in the Suntrust Mortgage/Commonwealth Enviormental Associates sponsored car held off a charging Buddy Emory to earn his second victory of the season at Orange County Speedway this weekend.

The series’ second visit to the Rougemont, NC racetrack proved to be a little more interesting than the previous race. The race wasn’t even green for a whole lap before trouble ensued as a multi-car pileup occurred in between turns 1-2 damaging several contenders…all of which managed to pull away. The driver to receive the worst end of the incident was the 91 car of Dean Slappey who had the rear of his car all smashed up.

This caution, occurring before any laps were run, forced a race restart. After all of the driver’s were placed back into their starting positions, the green flag flew and racing ensued for a few laps before a crash involving #42 Chris Hoylman and #1va Lin O’Neal. O’Neal, who was involved in the lap 1 crash as well, took his car back to the pit lane while Hoylman managed to stay out. Hoylman would manage to keep his car on the lead lap while O’Neal would make repairs and get his PT Cruiser modified back into the race several laps down.

After the initial problems, the race was run pretty clean. AJ Winstead managed to get the lead and from there he managed to pulled away from the rest of the field by several car lengths. Buddy Emory, making his season debut tried hard to chase down the 99 car but was unable to catch him. The best race of the night was for the 3rd position as Robert Conner and current points leader Doug Paasch raced each other side-by-side for the a good portion of the latter stages of the race.

In the end, it was AJ Winstead and the #99 car in victory lane, becoming the first driver this season to have won multiple races. Buddy Emory came in second and Robert Conner took third place.

The racers now head into the Yadkin River Valley of North Carolina as the tour takes on the Friendship Motor Speedway on Sunday, June 3rd.

  2. Twin 50 – Southside Speedway

    May 15, 2007 by Winstead

Richmond, VA- In the first of the twin 50’s the #99 of A.J. Winstead started on the outside of the front row. After a side by side battle with the pole sitter #19 Kyle Wood, A.J. took the lead on lap 2. A.J.’s run in the front lasted until lap 19; while lapping the #16 RPM car, the Ernie Dettnebar driven car, came up the track and spun into the 99, causing both cars to be sent to the rear. Winstead had to park the car on lap 22 for handling problems caused by the run in with the 16 car.

The crew worked feverously to repair the Commonwealth Environmental Associates car for the second 50 lap feature. At the last minute they were able to make the show. Starting 19th due to the finishing order from the first race, A.J. worked his way up to eighth place. On lap twenty the Ryan Boggs driven car spun in front of Winstead, causing both cars to go to the rear of the field. On the restart Winstead worked to the outside of Boggs and made the pass. A lap later Boggs spun Winstead, causing brake damage to the 99 machine, which forced A.J. to park it for the evening. (Boggs was penalized 5 laps for the intentional act of spinning Winstead) The results for the first outing at Southside were a dismal 16th and 18th respectively
