The long pulls from Northeast Georgia finally paid off this past weekend at Southern National Raceway Park for Darrell Bryson, as he captured his first victory on the Rolling Thunder Modifieds presented by Red Man tour.
A.J. Winstead seemed to have had a turn of luck, by starting the night by qualifying his SunTrust Mortgage/Commonwealth Environmental Associates car on the pole. He would be relegated to a 6th place start due to inversion rules.
Hunter Slayton would start on the pole and lead the first 4 laps until veteran Billy Morris took over the point. By lap 12 it was Morris, Winstead, and eventual winner, Seven time Lanier Track Champion, Bryson showing the way. On lap 21 Winstead, caught and passed Morris who had begun to slow on the track.
Winstead would lead until lap 64, when his bad luck of the past view weeks returned, as a right front flat tire would cause him to give up the lead and pit for some fresh rubber. With Winstead going a lap down in the pits, Bryson assumed the lead and cruised on to the checkered flag with Doug Paasch close behind.
